POP GARAGE PRESENTS...PEPVERT http://www.pepvert.com/Debut, and twin releases, The Humming Workshop & Spitzer's Friends, are instrumental ambient recordings written and produced by Pepvert. Both were recorded at Pop Garage in Coconut Grove, FL and released digitally on Eleven:11 Records in 2009. Pepvert's next release, Italian Girls, is scheduled for December 2010.forget the namehttp://www.forgetthename.comhttp://www.myspace.com/ftnisforgethenameThe band, who for the majority of the late 80s and early 90s was considered one of the best acts in Florida was made up of Rene Alvarez on vocals, Derek Murphy on drums, Rafael Tarragó on guitars and José Tillán on bass. Their heavy rock sounds were accompanied by introspective lyrics and emotional performances. During the band’s 13 year career they independently released three recordings: ‘Water and Walls’ (with then guitar player Michael Lashinsky), the acoustic ‘The Subtleties of Anger’ and their full-length release ‘Stones for Steven.’ Their last effort 'wake ' was recorded but never released due to their disbandment. The band, who opened for headlining acts such as Stone Temple Pilots, Candlebox and Gin Blossoms and shared the stage with other local favorites like Marilyn Mason, The Mavericks and Nuclear Valdez were a top draw in Miami and popular throughout Florida, as well as toured the East coast.POPVERThttp://www.myspace.com/popvertPopvert, once a project... now a band. The second release by this Miami/West Palm Beach/Los Angeles combo features the original lineup of Brendan Buckley, Jolie Lindholm, Marthin Chan and Pepvert. Additional guest appearances include Rene Alvarez, Rafael Tarrago and Albert Menendez.Started as a side/pleasure project for musicians who were each involved in other things, Popvert soon took shape with a particular sound. Their debut EP – drive thru happiness - was released in the US (Eleven:11 Records) and Mexico (Noiselab), and had songs featured in the feature film Elipsis (20th Century Fox). Popvert also recorded a cover version of New Order's Subculture, which was selected by New Order and released on the compilation - Community 2: A NewOrder Online Tribute. They created a video for this track, which was shot in Echo Park, in Sliver Lake, CA, directed by Richard Briglia & Vishwanand Shetti and produced by MC.Infidelity Park - is Popvert's latest release, and is full of joy...POPVERT are -- Pepvert – bass, keyboards, guitars, programming and production; Marthin Chan – guitars and keyboard; Jolie Lindholm -vocals; Brendan Buckley - drums, guiro & vibesMore on Popvert...Longtime friends and sometimes co-workers Marthin Chan (Maleco Collective, Volumen Cero) and Pepvert (aka Jose Tillan) spent an afternoon playing guitar and talking about music. They realized that their musical tastes were very similar and they both shared a knack for composition. That musical collaboration germinated POPVERT.Realizing that they had the uncanny ability of co-writing very effectively, they spent the following eighteen months writing and recording music in Pepvert's always under development home studio in Coconut Grove - The Pop Garage. With no commercial purpose in mind, other than to listen to the music in their cars, this 'no-pressure' approach was one of the main factors that kept the duo writing together, each enjoying the benefits of not being a band. Their search to find someone to record proper vocals ended up with Jolie Lindholm. Jolie, who had recently parted ways with The Rocking Horse Winner and residing in Boca Raton, was also looking for a way to channel creativity without the burden of being tied down to 'a band.' The three non-members of this non-group traded files, CD-Rs and wrote and recorded a plethora of songs. The recordings were finished with the inclusion of fellow music fan and drum wiz Brendan Buckley, who at the time was recording with some very high profiled artists and took on the challenge to record drums at his home studio. The decision to release an EP was a conscious one. POPVERT wanted to share their music with the outside world, yet they did not want to bore a potential new audience with a long and tired format. The excitement of making a 'great record' as opposed to 'an OK record with some great songs' was enough for Drive Thru Happiness to become POPVERT's debut EP. POPVERT is a vehicle used for creative purposes. for having fun. for expanding musical horizons and for having the flexibility of not having a definition that restricts people, ideas and creativity. What it is or what it should be does not matter, as long as they are happy doing what they do. Enjoy POPVERT. they did.
